A Strategic Leap Forward in the Kingdom’s Health and Innovation Ecosystem
This April, Saudi Arabia marks a significant milestone in its journey toward digital transformation and global innovation leadership. For the first time, the Harvard Health Systems Innovation Lab (HSIL) will host its globally recognized Health Systems Innovation Hackathon in the Kingdom.
Taking place on April 11–12, 2025, at Dr. Sulaiman Al-Habib Hospital – Alfaiha, Jeddah, the event is organized in collaboration with Prince Mohammed Bin Salman College (MBSC) and hosted by Dr. Sulaiman Alhabib Academy. The hackathon centers around the theme: “Building High-Value Health Systems: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence.”
The HSIL Hackathon is a high-intensity, solution-focused event that brings together interdisciplinary teams to co-create AI-powered innovations aimed at solving critical health system challenges. It is designed not just to inspire, but to operationalize bold ideas that have real-world potential.
Over two days, teams will develop solutions in:
- AI-powered diagnostic tools
- Enhanced patient communication and engagement
- Health literacy access and equity
- Preventive care optimization
- Scalable pediatric health technologies
Strengthening Saudi’s Role in Global Innovation
The Kingdom’s hosting of this prestigious global event highlights its growing stature in health tech, AI research, and systems innovation. As part of Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia is creating fertile ground for digital transformation across sectors—including healthcare.
The HSIL Hackathon offers a model for how academic institutions, hospitals, and policy leaders can collaborate to turn ambition into application. Saudi Arabia’s role in this initiative reflects a broader commitment to becoming a global center for health innovation that is not only tech-enabled but purpose-driven.
From Concept to Scalable Venture
Unlike typical hackathons, this program doesn’t end when the pitches do. Winning teams will enter a structured post-hackathon bootcamp where they will refine their concepts and prepare for real-world implementation.
Select teams will be accepted into the HSIL Venture Incubation Program—a globally connected accelerator offering mentorship, strategic direction, and exposure to health systems leaders and investors worldwide.
Driving Systemic Change
As health systems around the world face mounting pressures—rising costs, aging populations, and demands for better access—this event arrives at a critical time. It offers a focused platform for rapid innovation and solution design rooted in AI, ethics, and usability.
Saudi Arabia’s hosting of the HSIL Hackathon is not just a national achievement—it’s a signal to the world that the Kingdom is ready to shape the future of healthcare.
